CHILD MALTREATMENT FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS: AN INTRODUCTORY COURSE
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course is designed to introduce you to the broad subject of child maltreatment and its underlying causes. It is designed for nurses who are assessing or managing pediatric patients in a variety of settings. Emphasis will be on understanding the various types of child abuse and how it can be detected during routine nursing screening procedures or the delivery of direct nursing care. The characteristic patterned injuries of child maltreatment will be emphasized. Assessment, documentation and reporting requirements will also be outlined.
OBJECTIVES: At the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Name three distinct types of child maltreatment.
- Identify patterned injuries associated with child abuse when provided case photo illustrations.
- Use a child abuse screening tool to record observations or document other findings when provided an illustrated case scenario.
- Select statements that accurately describe the roles and responsibilities of nurses in reporting child maltreatment identified in the workplace or community setting.

DURATION: All course requirements must be completed within 6 months of enrollment.
METHOD OF COURSE GRADING: Pass/fail grading system. Course examination is multiple choice and true/false statements. METHOD OF COURSE EVALUATION: After successful completion of the course examination, a course evaluation must be submitted to info@taife.com.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION: Upon completion of the course content, examination with a passing grade of 70% and evaluation, student will receive a certificate of completion.
